That fits the Mayhew value FA perfectly. Had a good year in 2010, got hurt last year. Can play G or T.

Free agent T/G Geoff Schwartz confirmed on Twitter Wednesday night that he is healthy after missing all of 2011 due to hip surgery. Beat writer Darin Gantt insists Schwartz wasn't tendered due to a "business decision," but the Panthers would easily have offered him the one-year, $1.26 million proposal if they thought highly of Schwartz. Young and a mauler with starting experience at right guard and right tackle, Schwartz should have several suitors. Old pal John Fox may give him a look in Denver. Geoff Schwartz, OT/ OG

When the Carolina Panthers opted against tendering Schwartz, there was a collective gasp from the PFF team. Sure Ron Rivera wasn’t in charge when Schwartz managed to finish 2010 with a PFF grade of +12.3 despite playing two positions, but it wouldn’t have been hard to watch some tapes and see he’s got more talent than anything they can currently put out on the right side of their line. Schwartz offers the kind of versatility and talent that brings to mind a poor man’s Marshal Yanda; good enough to make him the best right tackle available and possibly the best value guard too. He has a very real chance to be this year’s Evan Mathis for a team with a diligent scouting department.

How could the Lions be talking to him then? Rusty has been very clear that Mayhew and the scouts arent very good... :icon_scratch:

I don't know if he was a RFA last year as well, but I think I remember him getting some minor buzz last year...

Adam Caplan saying that Lions have interest in LB David Hawthorne as fallback for Tulloch. Would love to keep Tulloch, but Hawthorne is a good back up plan.

Jason Cole reports Lions have interest in Laron Landry.

Eric Wright being pursued heavily by SF. As well as TB and Washington.

I really want that Schwartz guy.

#Lions qb Shaun Hill told me he's got a visit set up with the #Rams this week

would make sense he lives less than three hours away from their practice facility and field.. I visited Lake of the Ozarks last fall (I use to live 6blocks from Edward Jones dome) and everyone at the bar I went to KNEW him as he is "one of the locals"
  11. millenbacker !! JUST BREW IT !!

Not a big loss, happy trails....

Bucs got him for 5 years, don't know what they paid him but I don't want to use our cap room here.

We have to draft somebody and it is shaping up to be our first round pick. We have Houston for one more year and then he is up. We will need to pick up some B/C level players later on to fill in the void.

@AnwarRichardson: San Francisco #49ers receiver Ted Ginn Jr. will visit #Lions #NFL

What? Seriously? That's horrible. Corner just became our #1 off season priority. Unless your ok with berry and Houston as our starting corners.
  18. Texan4Lions Keeping it Real since '77

They must have something already in the works for another corner or a plan to take one high. I guess I just freaked on initial reaction.
  19. badnews3123 Well-Known Member

Wright is solid and versatile, but I wouldn't overpay for him.

Berry is underrated. Very good season as essentially a rookie. Would get more recognition if he wasn't a UDFA.

They'll obviously add more help, but I don't want them to overpay.
  20. Blaming Barry Well-Known Member

Wright was nothing special, but we'll probably end up regretting letting him go. He is at least still young and knew the players/system. But agree it's not worth overpaying.

I'm thinking they have Richard Marshall in their sites. Didn't they look at him when he was available a couple years ago?
  21. BurnTHalO Active Member

I did the same thing. If they do nothing to address that hole by the end of the second day of the draft (either FA or draft), then I'll freak out.
  22. badnews3123 Well-Known Member

Looks like Wrights deal is 5 for 35-40....yeah I'm ok with no paying that.
  23. goldenlions International Playboy

I think TB is going to try to buy their way into the playoffs this year.
  24. Texan4Lions Keeping it Real since '77

They still play in a tough division.

*Side note: JRay started a wright discussion thread.
  25. Blaming Barry Well-Known Member

I'm trying to figure out how Wright gets almost as much per year as Carl Nicks.
